Coprinus Comatus, Shaggy Ink Cap
A field study of the ink cap in its shaggy prime, before it dissolves into itself. Drawn line by line, printed only once you order it.

Field notes
Coprinus comatus, the shaggy ink cap, is a tall narrow white cap covered in upturned scales, standing on a slender stem. The silhouette is unusually vertical for a mushroom, and the surface is unusually broken up, which is a combination that rewards being drawn rather than photographed.
We caught it in its intact stage, because that is the form the species is recognised by. The shagginess is drawn as individual scales rather than as a texture: slower to do, and the only way it holds together at print size instead of turning into noise.
Everything around it is left plain so the cap keeps the attention. Part of the Mushrooms collection, available on posters, prints, t-shirts and accessories, made only when ordered.
This is an illustration, not an identification guide, and nothing here is advice about picking or eating anything.
