How we work it out
Fungi keep their own clock.
The lag
Fungi fruit five to fourteen days after heavy rain, not the morning after. We weight the rain that fell in that window, not yesterday's drizzle.
The soil, not the sky
What matters is the water still held in the top few centimetres of ground. We read soil moisture directly instead of guessing from the forecast.
Height and latitude
Mountains fruit first, the south runs later, and below the equator the whole year flips. We shift the window by about four days for every three hundred metres you climb.
What this is not
This tells you whether the walk is worth it. It says nothing about what you find, and nothing about what you do with it. Learn your species, and check the rules where you are.
